A Celebration of 50 Years of Public Service, Senator Ernest F. Hollings, Columbia, 1999, 2 June
Speech files, 1950 to 2002, consist chiefly of texts, drafts, and outlines of speeches, related correspondence, and programs. Undated speeches, chiefly from his years as state senator, lieutenant governor, and governor, are found at the end of the collection. The speech index, at the end of the finding aid, only lists speeches that have texts or outlines, and does not list speeches which are only referred to in correspondence or programs.
c. 1968, Comedian Bob Hope speaks at a rally, possibly “Westmoreland Day” in Columbia, with General William Westmoreland, Columbia mayor Lester Bates, Governor Robert McNair, James F. Byrnes, and Senator Ernest F. Hollings visible on stage in various shots. (Photographs 12-16)
The papers consist entirely of photographic prints of public figures taken by Mauldin during his years as a political reporter. Most of the identifying information was provided by Mr. Mauldin on the reverse of the photos.
Vertical File Materials contain information gathered by SCPC relating to Mauldin and may duplicate information already present in the collection.
