Walter Montgomery collection
This film collection consists of a mixture of 16mm, 8mm and Super 8mm films, from the 1920s through to the 1980s, and covers many subjects and places. Many are family films, and have comprehensive lists on the cans of the people shown in the films. Family events are covered including birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, trips and vacations and hunting/fishing trips with family and friends. There are a number of films about mills and some work trips abroad concerning mills and textile business.

Biographical Note
Walter Scott Montgomery was born October 18, 1900, in Spartanburg, the son of Walter S. and Bessie Gibbes Montgomery. He graduated from Virginia Military Institute. He became President and Treasurer of Spartan Mills before eventually taking over as Chairman of the Board. Mr. Montgomery died in 1996.

Custodial History
This collection was originally donated to Mr. Richardson by Mr. Montgomery for a documentary about the Spartan Mills owner.
Immediate Source of Acquisition
Received in August 2012 from William Richardson, Regional Studio Manager, ETV Upstate at the broadcasting PBS station WRET Spartanburg.
