Anthony F. Pearson Genealogical Collection, 1958-2013
Funeral programs, 1958-2013 (folders 1 - 7), most with biographical sketches and portraits, collected from African-American churches around South Carolina (Columbia, Elgin, Georgetown, Greenville, Greenwood, Killian, Lugoff, Manning, Sumter, West Columbia, and elsewhere); list of names filed in folder 1. Families represented include Briggs, Butler, Coles, Harrell, Jacobs, Jenkins, Johnson, Neal, Peterson, Rodman, Smith and others. Two published booklets marking anniversaries for two venerable African-American Baptist congregations located in Lugoff (Kershaw County, S.C.) and Columbia (Richland County, S.C.), both of which trace their founding to 1865; with photographs of members past and present, biographical information and historical sketches: "Sutton Branch Baptist Church Anniversary Booklet, Albert A. Neal, Pastor... Lugoff, South Carolina," 1985 (62 pages; in Folder 12); and "Zion Chapel Baptist Church No. 1... 113th Anniversary, Rev. A.J. Gove, Sr.... Columbia, South Carolina," 1978 (104 pages; Folder 13). Notes on descendants of the enslaved Sally Hemings and Thomas Jefferson of Monticello, including members of the Hemings, Bell, Scott and related families (folders 8 - 11)
