Identifier: SCU-RBSC-1991-1

This collection is comprised of files relating to the Thomas Cooper Society, a friends group supporting the Library and in particular Rare Books and Special Collections, later the Irvin Department of Rare Books and Special Collections, at the University of South Carolina. The Society was established to promote the Library and Library Services by sponsoring a variety of lectures, exhibits, and programs throughout the year. The Society also funded special acquisitions and special library initiatives. The papers here reflect the activities and goals of the Thomas Cooper Society from 1988-2019. The membership of the Society voted to dissolve the Society as of December 31, 2019 at its Annual General Meetings on April 25, 2019. A new friends organization, the Friends of the University of South Carolina Libraries, was established in Fall 2019.
