Jules Furthman was a screenwriter who worked on many Hollywood films. He was also a collector of rare books and manuscripts, including a Shakespeare second folio and an original copy of a work by Montaigne. This collection was gathered by Matthew J. Bruccoli and focuses on the work by Montaigne. The majority of the collection is composed of correspondence exchanged as Bruccoli gathered information and of various drafts of a “Birthday Sketch” written by Furthman that describes the contents of his manuscripts collection. Also included are photocopies of an appraisal of the contents of Furthman’s manuscripts collection and other material pertaining to the same.
