This collection primarily contains correspondence between Judith Ruderman and Joseph Heller. The majority of the correspondence relates to arranging classroom visits and lectures by Heller at Duke University. Also included, is correspondence related to Ruderman's book on Joseph Heller, titled Joseph Heller>. Also included are syllabi and course schedules for Ruderman's classes at Duke University.

Biographical / Historical
Judith Ruderman began her career as a developer in the Office of Continuing Education at Duke University and served as the Director of Continuing Education from 1983-1995. In 1995, Ruderman was named Vice Provost for Academic and Administrative Services. Ruderman retired in 2009 but still teaches one literature seminar each semester at Duke. Ruderman has published five books, including her literary criticism of Heller.
