Biographical Sketch

Nick Rossi (1924-2000) was a native of California. Rossi was best known as an opera administrator and author. He had a prolific career including honors from ASCAP, writing honors, and research fellowships. Rossi was also an authority on Cimarosa, having established a festival devoted to the composer in Cortona, Italy and serving as editor on performing editions of many of Cimarosa's works. He was also president and founding member of the Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco Society. He premiered many of Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco's works, including Song of Songs and L'Importanza de esse Franco.

Rossi lived in Italy for much of his career, acting as a correspondent from Italy for international opera journals. He also authored fifteen books on music, including Music Through the Centuries, Hearing Music: An Introduction, and Opera in Italy Today: A Guide.
