Overview

Luther James Battiste, III became one of the first African-Americans to serve on the Columbia City Council since the Reconstruction Era. He was elected in 1983 to represent District One and remained on the Council until 1998. He is also a prominent Columbia lawyer renowned for his ability as a trial lawyer, particularly his cross-examinations and closings.
