Collection Description

The collection consists of the contents of a single unbound binder arranged in two folders. General papers include financial summaries of receipts and disbursements, August to November 1952, a list of Minutemen for Eisenhower, and a few clippings. Abstract George Bell Timmerman, Jr. served as governor of South Carolina from 1955 to 1959, leading the state during a period of growing racial strife. He served as lieutenant governor under both Strom Thurmond and Jimmy Byrnes, 1947-1955. Abstract Charles H. Wickenberg, Jr. enjoyed a distinguished forty-year career as a journalist, chiefly with The State newspaper in Columbia, S.C.
