Collection Description

The collection consists of the contents of a single unbound binder arranged in two folders. General papers include financial summaries of receipts and disbursements, August to November 1952, a list of Minutemen for Eisenhower, and a few clippings. Lists, compiled by county, document state and county committeemen, and volunteers.

Abstract George Bell Timmerman, Jr. served as governor of South Carolina from 1955 to 1959, leading the state during a period of growing racial strife. He served as lieutenant governor under both Strom Thurmond and Jimmy Byrnes, 1947-1955. Abstract Charles H. Wickenberg, Jr. enjoyed a distinguished forty-year career as a journalist, chiefly with The State newspaper in Columbia, S.C.
