Educator, author, and outdoorsman, Havilah Babcock was born on March 6, 1898 in Appomattox, Virginia, a son of H.C. and Blanche Moore Babcock. He married Alice Hudson Cheatham in 1919. They had one son, Hudson Homer Havilah. He received a Bachelor of Arts in 1918 and a Bachelor of Philosophy in 1919 from Elon College in North Carolina. The papers in this collection, approximately twelve linear feet, represent all phases of Wilfrid Hardy Callcott’s life and academic career. He carefully preserved his papers and letters from the time he was in grammar school and, after his death, his son George Hardy Callcott (b.1929), Professor of History at the University of Maryland, collected, organized, and annotated the family archive.
