Abstract Formed in January 1973, the Coalition was reorganized in 1975 as a public interest lobby to secure ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment to the federal constitution by South Carolina. The Coalition was co-funded by the League of Women Voters and the National Organization for Women and headed by Keller H. Collection Description The collection consists of the contents of a single unbound binder arranged in two folders. General papers include financial summaries of receipts and disbursements, August to November 1952, a list of Minutemen for Eisenhower, and a few clippings. Thomas S. and Clara G. McMillan Papers

Abstract Thomas Sanders McMillan represented Charleston in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 1917 to 1925, serving his last two terms as Speaker Pro Tem and Speaker. He was then elected to represent the 1st District in the U.S. House of Representatives. He died in office in 1939, whereon constituents elected his wife, Clara Gooding, to complete his unexpired term. Walt Lardner Collection

Abstract Walt Lardner sold his first cartoon in 1954 while a student at the School of Visual Arts in New York. For the next decade, his free-lance cartoons appeared in national magazines such as Collier's and the Saturday Evening Post. In 1967, Lardner moved to South Carolina, where he began a long association with South Carolina Educational Television, eventually becoming the network's chief animator. During this period, he was also a regular, free-lance contributor to The State.
