Donaldson Air Force Base Photographs

Scope and Contents Opening in 1942 as Greenville Army Air Base near Greenville, S.C., it was a bomber training base. GAAB was used by Tactical Air Command after 1945 and renamed Greenville Air Force Base with establishment of the U.S. Air Force in 1947. It was renamed again to Donaldson Air Force Base in 1951. Military Air Transport Service took over the base in 1957. Donaldson AFB became a victim of budget reductions and was deactivated in January 1963. Doug Mauldin Papers

Abstract This small collection consists of 75 photographs of public figures, including Speaker of the House Sol Blatt, state senator Edgar Brown (both in photo at right), Governor Robert McNair, state senator James P. "Spot" Mozingo, and Governor John West. The photos were taken by Doug Mauldin, a South Carolina journalist and photographer who worked for The State, the Greenville News, and the Associated Press, frequently reporting on state government.

Dungan film collection

Scope and Contents E. T. Start of New York State moved to Camden South Carolina in 1903, as the photographer at the Kirkwood Hotel. Photographing the Winter Colony and local scenes, he spent time in Camden until c. 1945. Images of people, animals, and houses in Camden, S.C., including white and African-American families, horse -drawn vehicles, horseback riding, women in riding habits, polo, birds, dog tricks, chickens, turkeys, gardens, tennis, the house "Bohemia," and trip to the mountains.
